...because of something that happened earlier today.
I had my interview today for the volunteer position I've been working towards. It wasn't a question of not being accepted, that was never a problem, and the interview was merely a formality, but I talked the whole time I was there about how flexible I am schedule-wise, and how I had all these days open, and what do I do, but unknowingly schedule my first volunteer day on a day the E.M. and I are taking a day trip to London.
UGH..
Not only is that my first volunteer day, but we took a long time after the meeting and lunch to figure out a date that would work for ALL of us, so we could take a tour of the place with one of their most knowledgeable guides. I'm the newest one, and I needed this the most. So, I'm the one who would benefit the most from this experience, yet I can't make it.
UGH.. again.
So I worked up the courage to call the coordinator and let her know. She's an incredible woman, and I admire her immensely, therefore I was incredibly embarrassed that I had to immediately call her back and scratch myself off the lists I'd so willingly added myself to for that one day. She wasn't there. I was told she'd call me back, which made me feel a LOT better, only that was about 5:30 this afternoon, when I was told she was expected home any minute.
It's now 10:01pm.
UGH!!
So I don't know what to do now. Should I try calling her back tomorrow? Should I try emailing her? There are about 9 days between now and then to change dates and times, but even though a week and two days feels like a comfortably decent amount of time, it's really NOT that long when you're going to have to scout around and find a backup.
OH ugh.
I hope I hear from her tomorrow. I don't know what to do, otherwise. I wouldn't have knowingly overbooked a day, definitely not!
We'll see what happens.
UGH.
Wait til tomorrow to call her back, I'm sure she's got a life outside work
and isn't snubbing you. Maybe she's got issues with family, maybe she's
into reading a good book. Who knows? Give her time :) And, I HIGHLY
recommend a DayRunner that you carry with you at all times. Its the only
way I halfway know where the heck I'm supposed to be half the time :p :D
Well, after I calmed myself down and thought about it, I figured she
probably was running late, and they had had someone over, and she couldn't
get away that evening to call me.
